The Mirror Stage

401 Advanced Topics Studio
2020

When reflective materials and surfaces meet geometry, strange things happen. From pure reproductions of what’s around them to distorted and obfuscated images and appearances, mirrored objects are passive-aggressive in their behavior. This studio focused on polished metals and reflective glass in the design of small extensions / pavilions for the UCLA Campus. Reflection here has two meanings: 1) the throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it and 2) serious thought or consideration.
