The NOW Institute: Haitian Orchestra: CEMUCHCA
IDEAS Urban Strategy Studio
2019
The IDEAS Urban Strategy Studio with The NOW Institute treads the combinatory line between accentuating pre-existing urban relationships and reshaping them for new use cases. Projects range from residential to city-scale thinking and explore topics as diverse as sustainability, contemporary culture, artificial intelligence, autonomous mobility, sensing technology, extreme environments, and media-enhanced experiences. This past year, the studio explored three distinct issues.
Haitian Orchestra: CEMUCHCA
Five students are currently focused on creating a resilient, seven hectare campus for the Circle of Christian Musicians of Cap Haitian (CEMUCHCA). The first phase of this project is a bandshell to host a large concert on Cap Haitien’s 350th anniversary which coincides with Beethoven's birthday, the death of Henry Christophe, and the 10-year anniversary of the last devastating earthquake in Haiti. The bandshell, which will be built before the end of this year, will be followed by dormitories, educational, energy generation and recreational facilities. Having visited the site early last quarter, the students have completed the design and are assisting the fabricators to produce the bandshell.
